Pinterest Thursday - removing scratch marks

When we remodeled our kitchen, I decided to sell my Fiestaware and get all white dishes...Shortly after making this decision, I started to wonder why people would want to own white dishes!  They get scratched so easily...but I loved the simplicity of them, so I decided that since the dishes were brand new and already looked like they were 10 years old, I had to do something to return them to their former glory.  On to Pinterest I went...

When I found this pin my heart was overcome with joy, but then I remembered this is Pinterest and not all things are what they appear, remember the nail incident! So I set off to buy the miracle worker - Bar Keepers Friend. FYI- I couldn't find it at Walmart here in Dothan, but I did find it at Publix and Target.

The result....This stuff is AMAZING!
After some good ole fashioned elbow grease, my plates looked like new!
Here are my before and after pics!

Don't have white dishes...this stuff is great for all dishes and your pots and pans...this stuff really is my friend...not that I'm a bar keeper...anyway, you get my drift

Easy Peasy Peach Cobbler

My hubby's grandmother made some divine peach cobbler, not to long after I married into the family. When I asked how she made it, here was the response I got...

1 cup of self rise flour. 1 cup of sugar. 1 cup of milk. 1 stick of melted butter.
Mix all the stuff and dump it over some drained canned peaches. Bake it.

When I asked what temperature to bake it at...the response was a grandma response..."I don't know, just at a normal baking temperature". I love how good ole southern women bake!

So that's it! I have made a different version - Caramel Peach Cobbler
It's the same recipe, except I replace 1/2 the sugar with brown sugar and add 1 tsp of vanilla...it's divine too!

By the way, I use one large can of peaches and I bake it at 350 for about 45 mins or until golden brown. After you scoop it into a bowl...add a scoop of ice cream...that's a must with peach cobbler.

Pinterest Thursday, I mean Friday - Crock Pot Meals...

My 30th birthday and my 12th wedding anniversary was a couple weeks ago and I did not want to cook...I didn't want to get out of bed...I wanted to stay under the sheets and still be 29...but since apparently that's not how it works...and after a conversation with a very wise family member...it's just a number and age is measured on happiness - am I happier now than I was ten years ago??? the answer - ABSOLUTELY!!!  So I'm womaning up, putting on my big girl panties and I'm going to rock my thirties!!!!!

But since I still didn't want to cook that day and my hubby wanted the day off too (something about anniversaries being important too...I personally think the birthday card trumps all...well maybe except for a pregnancy card - anywho...) I needed my crock to help me out, so I went to inspiration heaven and found these recipes on pinterest for dinner.

Beef Stroganoff
RESULT: I would make it again, with my addition

It needed some sour cream. The cream cheese was good, but it wasn't beef stroganoff without the sour cream for me, so I added a good healthy spoonful at the end

Bread Pudding in the crock pot
RESULTS: epic failure

Now this could me me messing up - but I don't know how I did - I followed the directions and here's what I got:

Yup...that's nasty burned bread pudding - I didn't know the crock pot could burn things...

And that's undercooked bread pudding on the top...maybe someone else will have better luck with this recipe, but as for me, I'll be sticking with the traditional way of making the stuff :0)

Displaying photos...with twine?!?

I love pictures. I love vacations.  I love vacation pictures. I love seeing other family vacation pictures. But who has the space and time to put up and constantly change pictures when you go vaca?!? That was a rhetorical question. If you have the space and time, don't brag...

I needed a way to put up the vacation pictures in a small hallway wall and here's what I came up with

I used twine, wrapped it around a couple of nails and used mini clothespins to hang my pictures.  I found the mini clothespins in the office section at Wal-Mart.  I also documented each picture so when people looked at them, they would know the details. Here's another place I did it

These are pictures of the kids' first Disney World visit. Yes, Disney World pictures get their own wall...it's kind of a big deal around here...

The great thing about this is I can add and move pictures around easily. When we fill up the third row, I'll add another one and move the pictures around.

I love walking by the wall and being reminded of some incredible family vacations we've had over the years...it also can make me kinda depressed when I walk by them, with my arms full of laundry and kids screaming, wishing I was on mickey's boat instead...but that's ok because I have the memory...
